ELWA announces names of waste contractors

ELWA - the East London Waste Authority - today announced the names of the two contractors still in the tendering process to provide four East London Boroughs with an innovative plan for dealing with everyday waste.

Members of the ELWA Committee recently narrowed down the number of waste management companies that they are actively considering from four to two - Milton Keynes based Shanks Waste Services Ltd and Surrey based Thames Waste Management Ltd.

During the forthcoming months, ELWA will be negotiating with these two companies over aspects of their submitted tenders, with a view to selecting the preferred bidder later this year.

ELWA is still involved in a formal competitive tendering situation with these two companies and, at this stage, is unable to reveal details of their specific bids. However, both short-listed companies are offering innovative solutions for the 530,000 tonnes of municipal waste collected by the four Boroughs each year. Both solutions fit ELWA’s declared Integrated Waste Management Strategy and have an emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
